The E-in-C for Corner Bar Magazine sent this to me in reaction to the submission of my novelette, Desanctified, and I liked his flattery, so I held on to it.
Dear Mr. Metzner – thank you for sharing your work with us. If it is still available, I would like to publish “Desanctified” in Corner Bar Magazine. It is, in no particular order, fearlessly irreverent, witty, heart-attack serious, really quite frightening, mesmerizing, and thus impossible to ignore. If this works for you, I will carefully divide it into two “episodes” that will run in concurrent issues, and use the bio-sketch you’ve provided.
Regards,
Garrison Somers
Editor-in-Chief
Corner Bar Magazine
Somers liked the story so much, not only did he serialize the story over two issues of CBR (something he very seldom did), he also changed the magazine’s eight year old policies of A. colorizing illustrations that would pair and interrupt the pagination of submitted works and B. making illustrations relevant to the stories in question. In prior stories, he’d just throw any random illustrations in there to attempt to animate the magazine. So, á la the Marine Corps: Hoo Rah.
